Story, without spoilers

Yachine grows up in Casablanca’s Sidi Moumen district with his brother Hamid and close friend Nabil. Following them from childhood, the drama examines the circumstances and relationships through which violent extremism takes hold.

Context & recognition

Nabil Ayouch adapts Mahi Binebine’s novel Les Étoiles de Sidi Moumen. Inspired by the 2003 Casablanca attacks, the film is fiction rather than a documentary reconstruction. It was selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 2012.
